In October 2005, the Bartow County Sheriff's Office was awarded a Federal Grant to establish a Domestic Violence Unit. The Grant allowed Sheriff Clark Millsap to provide one victim advocate, one criminal investigator, and one administrative assistant. The supervisor position is funded as an in kind service by the Bartow County Sheriff's Office; this allowed the creation of a specialized unit to address the issue of Domestic Violence within the community and to better serve the citizens of Bartow County.
The Domestic Violence Unit current staff members are as follows:
Sergeant Nancy Norris, ext. 6015
Investigator William Rios, ext. 6024
Victim Advocate Terri Southerland, ext 6362
Three of the staff members are certified as Domestic Violence instructors and received their training through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security/Federal Law Enforcement Training Center. Certification enables the unit to provide specialized training to all law enforcement officers and to others related in the field of Domestic Violence.
The Domestic Violence Unit members also provided special programs to the various community groups to bring about awareness and education.
